“We were pretty rushed through the line, so I don’t know if they how they would have accommodated gluten free.”
Yes, the line is as long as you read about online.

When in Austin, Texas, it's impossible to resist the allure of mouthwatering barbecue, and Terry Blacks in South Austin proves to be a go-to destination for both locals and tourists alike. Located near downtown, this bustling eatery beckons brings a crowd any time of day for the taste of some Texas barbecue.

Arriving at Terry Blacks, we were greeted by a sight that hinted at the popularity of this barbecue joint—a long line of eager patrons waiting to satisfy their cravings. While the line may seem daunting, we were pleasantly surprised by how fast it moved.

As we made our way closer to the food counter, we couldn't help but notice the cafeteria-style setup, which may not be the preferred dining experience for those with specific dietary restrictions or allergies. Nevertheless, the menu indicated that some of the sides were gluten-free.

I’m pretty careful when food is served cafeteria style, so we decided to just try the meat, all of which was gluten-free. The barbecue sauces available were gluten-free as well. Our sampling included the turkey, ribs, and brisket, each showcasing the rich and smoky flavors that make Texas-style barbecue legendary.

Of the trio, the brisket emerged as the clear favorite. It was juicy and tender, and had the perfect balance of fat and meat, it practically melted in our mouths with every savory bite. The ribs offered a delightful combination of succulence and smokiness, while the turkey boasted a simple smokey flavor that stood on its own.

While the meat was very good, I have to be honest and say I don’t know if I personally would go back to Terry Blacks. If they had more of an opportunity to talk with a server about my celiac needs, then I would. We were pretty rushed through the line, so I don’t know if they how they would have accommodated. While we did not partake in these offerings during our visit, it is an enticing option for those seeking a more comprehensive barbecue experience.
