“Their meats and sauces were gluten-free… and it was exceptional Texas barbecue”
Our quest for more authentic Texas barbecue led us to Salt Lick in Round Rock, which is just north of Austin. As a someone with celiac, I always make it a point to inquire about the gluten-free options at any restaurant I visit. The server assured me that all their meats and sauces were gluten-free, which was a promising start.
Opting for a plate since their bread is not gluten-free, I ordered a quarter-pound of their famous brisket. The moment I took my first bite, I knew I was in for a treat. The brisket was exceptionally tender, bursting with robust flavors. Each mouthful was a heavenly experience, and I couldn't help but appreciate the craftsmanship that went into smoking this delectable cut of meat.
To enhance the flavor profile, I drizzled their tangy barbecue sauce over the brisket. The sauce added a zesty and slightly tangy kick, perfectly complementing the rich and smoky essence of the meat.
I must confess that I didn't venture into exploring the gluten-free options for sides. I played it safe by sticking to the meat, as I had also done when we visited Terry Black’s.
Reflecting on my dining experience at Salt Lick, it's evident that they truly excel in the art of barbecue. The quality of their meats and the tanginess of their barbecue sauce are a testament to their dedication to crafting exceptional Texas barbecue. I also appreciated it being a sit-down restaurant where I had the opportunity to talk with a server about my food allergies.
