“The arepas were delicious and the variety of filling options was a plus.”
Pica Pica is a Venezualan restaurant that specializes in areapas, and it’s located in the Mission District in San Francisco. It’s a small but a warm and inviting restaurant on the corner of a block.
Pica Pica’s menu is completely gluten-free, and there are a lot of different options. For their main dishes, they offer arepas (both white corn and sweet yellow corn bases), cachapas, and platos. I’m not a huge fan of plantains and sweet foods, so I leaned towards the traditional white areapas.
We tried two arepas for $12.50 each: the pulled pork pernil and the crispy chicken, both served on their traditional white corn base. The arepas were delicious and the variety of filling options was a plus. If you look at the pictures, you’ll see a slaw side dish. The menu didn’t explain what it was, and I didn’t love it – but it was fun to try something new!
When I go back, I want to try the Nachos Pica Pica, they sound amazing from the menu.
Overall, Pica Pica was a great find! It was definitely worth going to the Mission District to try this place.
