“The dedication to providing a gluten-free haven is commendable, it wasn’t our favorite Austin option”
During our visit to Austin, Texas, we had the pleasure of dining at Wilder Wood, a dedicated gluten-free restaurant that caters to a wide range of dietary preferences. Located conveniently with a free parking lot on site (sometimes hard to find in Austin!), we had the opportunity to experience their menu on two separate occasions, and here's what we discovered.
On our first visit, we dove straight into the taco selection, ordering the Pastor, Crispy Camaron, and Smoked Brisket tacos. While the Pastor taco was somewhat average and the meat a bit tough, the other two tacos truly impressed us. The Crispy Camaron taco which had fried shrimp boasted perfectly cooked shrimp with a delightful crunch, and the Smoked Brisket taco had such a mouthwatering smoky flavor that left us craving for more.
Our second visit led us to explore other enticing items on the menu, and we found ourselves gravitating towards their nachos, topped generously with their delicious smoked brisket. The flavors melded well, and the combination of the tender meat and the well-seasoned chips created a very tasty meal. However, the portion size was a little small for other nacho orders I’ve had. Although the flavors were on point, we wished there were more nachos to indulge in.
In addition to the nachos, we also couldn't resist trying their Waller Burger. This gluten-free burger option did not disappoint. The patty was juicy and flavorful, complemented by fresh toppings and served on a gluten-free bun. While it didn't necessarily redefine the burger game, it was a solid choice that satisfied our cravings for a classic meal.
One of the standout features of Wilder Wood is its extensive menu, perfect for accommodating a large group with diverse tastes and dietary needs. Whether you're celiac or simply seeking delicious options in Austin, this restaurant has you covered. However, it's important to note that while the food at Wilder Wood is enjoyable and caters to those with gluten sensitivities, it may not be the most memorable dining experience in terms of flavor and execution.
That being said, the dedication to providing a gluten-free haven is commendable, and for that reason alone, we found ourselves returning for a second visit. It's a relief to know that you can enjoy a variety of dishes without any concerns about gluten. Wilder Wood provides a comfortable and welcoming atmosphere where gluten-free diners can enjoy a meal without compromise.
