“while they do have a cauliflower crust they can use, to ensure it would be safe for someone with celiac, they have four or five certified GF pizzas to choose from’
Before coming to SF, I thought California Pizza Kitchen was just the name of a frozen pizza brand that I used to by at Hy-Vee before going gluten-free. Turns out….their brand also has restaurants (about 200) that serve their pizza.
We tried the California Pizza Kitchen location in the Financial District (FiDi) of SF because it had the highest reviews on Find Me Gluten Free (there are some other locations in the Bay Area). Normally, I’m pretty skeptical of pizza places that aren’t dedicated gluten-free because of the shared spaces and all the flour, but since this location had pretty high reviews, I decided to give it a try.
I’d say the vibes are the restaurant are a mix of IHOP and Applebee’s, but the pizza both looked and smelled amazing.
We talked to the server about needing a gluten-free pizza because I have celiac, and he said while they do have a cauliflower crust they can use, to ensure it would be safe for someone with celiac, they have four or five certified GF pizzas to choose from.
We decided to try the BBQ chicken pizza. Sadly, there was no dairy-free cheese option, but the pizza was delicious. It also came with the allergy marker in the pizza, which I always appreciate. It communicates with me that the kitchen was made aware of my allergy. The chicken and sauce on the pizza was great. I felt safe eating the pizza and it was reasonably priced!
