“Because most other sushi restaurants don’t offer gluten-free options for fried rolls, whenever we go to Bamboo, we learn towards rolls with tempura”
Growing up in Nebraska, we really never had access to delicious and fresh sushi. Now whenever we travel outside the Midwest, we try to find at least one sushi place.
Bamboo Sushi has become a hit for us. We first tried and fell in love with Bamboo Sushi in Seattle at University Village. When we stayed in Oakland, we were to excited to see there is a location in San Ramon – which is about 30 minutes away.
While Bamboo Sushi isn’t totally gluten-free, the majority of their menu is GF – apart from their ribeye and wagyu burger. This makes it so easy to order any starters, small plates, or rolls you want.
Because most other sushi restaurants don’t offer gluten-free options for fried rolls, whenever we go to Bamboo, we learn towards rolls with tempura.
I always like to try a Rainbow Roll, which usually has three types of fish: salmon, tuna, and a white fish (Bamboo uses albacore) We didn’t take a picture because the roll was kind of falling apart – but it still tasted good!
We also tried the Bamboo Dragon roll (on the left) which has shrimp tempura, spicy tuna, crab, cucumber, avocado, and tempura crunchies on the outside. We also had the Friday the 13th roll which had spicy salmon, cucumber, avocado, albacore, spicy aioli, eel sauce, and tempura crunchies. Both of these rolls were amazing, but I really liked the Friday the 13th because it was unlike any of the rolls I’ve had before. The spicy aioli and eel sauce played really well together.
PS. While we didn’t order it on this trip, we have gotten the crispy garlic tofu (under the Kitchen section of their menu) in Seattle before and it is amazing. Even if you’re not a tofu-fanatic – anytime a celiac can get their hands on fried and crispy food, it’s a special experience.
